The Team

Wildfire Risk to Communities is led by the USDA Forest Service: National Headquarters – Fire and Aviation Management, and Rocky Mountain Research Station’s Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory. Congress directed the USDA Forest Service to develop Wildfire Risk to Communities in the 2018 Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R.1625 – Section 210).

Pyrologix, LLC is a wildfire threat assessment research firm providing specialized services to private companies, NGOs, state and local governments, and federal agencies in the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Homeland Security, and Interior. Pyrologix has more than two decades of experience in wildland fire science research, development, and application. Pyrologix supports the development of wildfire risk data for Wildfire Risk to Communities.

Headwaters Economics is an independent, nonprofit research group that works to improve community development and land management decisions. It has expertise in developing custom data tools and in wildfire risk reduction at the community level. Headwaters Economics supports the development and maintenance of the interactive Wildfire Risk to Communities website.

Additional partners include Azavea, a mission-driven software and data analytics company that creates interactive tools shared on this site, and Mapbox, which generously provides map tools and hosting.
